Delete Your Account

This page explains how to delete your InstantPix account — the mobile app (*InstantPix — Find Your Photos*) and the website both use the same account, so deleting it removes you from both.

InstantPix is operated by InstantPix Technology Private Limited (CIN: U62011KA2026PTC221385), the Data Fiduciary for this data under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

You do not need to sign in to read this page. You do need to be signed in to actually delete your account (or you can email us and we will do it for you — see below).

1. Open the InstantPix app and go to the Account tab.

2. Scroll to Request account deletion.

3. Confirm on the Delete Account? prompt by tapping Delete My Account.

Your account is deactivated immediately and you are signed out. Deletion then completes automatically after the grace period below — you do not need to do anything else.

Sign in at instantpixapp.com, open Account, scroll to the Delete Account section, and confirm. This is the same action as the in-app one and has the same effect.

If you cannot sign in — you lost the phone number or email on the account, or you never finished setting it up — write to our support address (shown at the bottom of this page) with the subject line "Delete My Account", from the email address on the account or mentioning the phone number you signed up with.

We will verify that the account is yours before deleting anything, and we will confirm once it is done. We acknowledge within 7 days and complete the request within 30 days, as required under the DPDPA 2023.

When deletion completes at the end of the grace period (see the timeline below), we erase:

• Your account and profile — name, email address, phone number, and password.
• Your face data. Your profile photo and the face template computed from it (the numeric representation of your face used to match you to photos) are erased. An automatic job also finds your face across every event you joined, makes those faces unsearchable, and removes them from our search index.
• For photographers: your KYC verification selfie is face data and is deleted with the rest of it.
• Your participation in events — participant records are unlinked from you, so your name no longer appears against them.
• Your posts and the photos and videos attached to them, including the underlying files in our storage.
• Your saved preferences and the push-notification tokens registered to your devices.

Once deleted, this is unrecoverable. We cannot restore an account after the grace period ends.

A small set of records is deliberately retained because Indian law requires it. These are kept for the legal purpose only — never used to profile you, market to you, or re-identify you.

• Payment and tax records (order IDs, payment IDs, invoices, transaction status) — retained for 7 years as required by Indian tax law. We do not hold your card, UPI, or bank details; those sit with Razorpay under their PCI-DSS environment.
• Photographer identity documents. If you took payouts as a photographer, the government ID you submitted for KYC (Aadhaar or PAN) is kept for the period anti-money-laundering record-keeping requires after our relationship ends, then deleted. It stays access-restricted to you and our admins the whole time.
• Photos taken by others. Photos uploaded to an event by a photographer belong to that event, and deleting your account does not delete their photos. What deletion does is make your face unsearchable in them and remove your face from our index, so you can no longer be found by face search. If you also want a specific photo taken down, email us and we will handle it as a takedown request.

Two honest limits. First, we locate your face in event photos by matching the template built from your profile photo — so if you never added one, we have no signature to search with, though your account and any stored face data are still deleted. Second, once your template is erased we can no longer recognise you at all: if an event you attended is re-scanned later, a face of you in someone else's photo can be detected again, with nothing stored on our side to suppress it against. Email us if either of these affects you.

• Immediately — your account is deactivated, you are signed out, and your display name is replaced with "Deleted User". You cannot sign in again after this point.
• For the next 30 days — the grace period. It exists so an accidental deletion can be reversed. Because sign-in is already blocked, restoring is a support action: email us before the 30 days are up and we will reinstate the account. Your data is still held during this window and is erased at the end of it.
• After 30 days — an automated job permanently erases your data: it deletes your stored face template and profile photo, makes your face unsearchable across every event you joined, removes those faces from our search index, unlinks your participant records, deletes your posts' media, and finally deletes the account row. From here it is irreversible.
• Within 30 days of erasure — deletions propagate to encrypted backups.

If you withdraw consent for processing without deleting your account, we stop processing within 7 days and delete the data unless retention is legally required.
